As future physicians,
we strive for healthy communities.
We aim to bring the community together to promote healthy lifestyles. Every year we donate all proceeds to a local community organization as one way to meet our goal of connecting with the community and promoting health. This year, all proceeds will benefit Northwest Harvest, an organization that helps combat food insecurity in the Yakima Valley and across the state.
This event has become a way for Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) students to thank the greater Yakima area by providing a family friendly, healthy and safe activity while raising funds to donate to local organizations that support the health and well-being of the Yakima area.
This annual event gives PNWU medical and physician assistant students the opportunity to engage the community in healthier activities since the Yakima county health statistics for obesity, hypertension, diabetes and other indicators lag behind the rest of the state. In addition to a 5K Fun Run and Walk, a concurrent Health Fair will be composed of booths from PNWU student clubs as well as local health organizations. Some of the topics covered include hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking cessation, back pain, mental health and substance abuse, outdoor recreation and exercise, and sexual health. We value the importance of engaging all members of the community so informational handouts will be presented in both English and Spanish.
Previous Run For Your Life events have donated thousands of dollars to local community health organizations, providing necessary equipment and supplies to sustain these organizations integral to helping improve the health of our community.
